Officially open for business

The Opening Ceremony of this year's Contest took place last night at the Eurodom. And to welcome guests there was a long red carpet, just like at the Oscars! Very swish.

Once inside guests were served some very tasty food. The Euroclub had been specially enlarged for the evening to make room for all the delegates.

The Ceremony was broadcast live on Russian TV. It started with a mini-pops version of some Eurovision classics. After that we were treated to a concert with former Eurovision stars, including Lys Assia, Ghenghis Khan, Teach In, Carola, Dana International, Marija Serifovic, Ruslana and Dima Bilan.

Afterwards it was the usual case of mingling and catching a glimpse of this year's acts. We caught up with Brinck and told him that we'd won 80quid when he triumphed in the Danish Final. He wanted to know how much money we'd got on him to win Eurovision!

The UK's Jade, looking stunning, was in great demand. We have a feeling she's going to do very well.

We'll be uploading some photos from last night later today.

So the Contest is now officially open, and we get down to the serious business of dress rehearsals, the first of which is about to begin. We'll be relaying our impressions later.
