1st dress rehearsal of Semi 1
We're back from the first run through of Semi 1 - from the front row!
The show starts with a fairytale depicted throughout the auditorium, ending with the Tolmachevy Sisters (winners of Junior Eurovision 2006) descending from the roof in a colourful bird. It's quite a long opening, and the audience may be wondering what it has to do with the Contest, although that does become (kind of) clear....eventually.
Anyway to the songs. The entry that stood out was Armenia! This is not one of our favourites, but on stage it looks great. The costumes are sumptuous and towards the end of the song props that look like tambourines start shining narrow, bright green lights. It's a very effective presentation.
So Armenia was the stand out song for us, but Switzerland, Bosnia-Herzegovina (no surprise there!), Portugal, Iceland and Malta all did well.
Worringly, we're a little concerned about whether Sweden will qualify....!
The word from those who watched the show on the big screen was that there is still quite a lot of work to be done, so let's hope everything will come together in time for tomorrow night.
We will watch the 2nd semi-final dress rehearsal tonight and will blog live! Blog starts at 17:00 UK/Irish time / 18:00 CET / 20:00 Moscow time.

Thanks for your updates/pics/videos! Though I´m not in Moscow, I agree with you that Armenia sounds and looks great. In Amsterdam last month these sisters were so good! I support Switzerland, Portugal, Malta and Romania. Hopefully they´ll reach the highest heights! I wish you a very pleasant second round of rehearsals.
